Itinerary

DENPASAR – WAINGAPU

On arrival at Mau'Hau Airport of Waingapu - East Sumba, our guide will meet and transfer you to local restaurant for lunch (if the flight arrives at noon, otherwise lunch will be organized as per suit time and place). After lunch one hour drive overland to Uma Lulu (Melolo), Rindi then to Pau traditional villages for traditional houses, stone graves and spectacular traditional "Ikat" weaving process by tie and dye method. This is the centre of Sumba textile which is consist of blanket  for men and small size skirt for women. These textiles only made by women’s hand of cotton, local wood barks and some kind of plants such as indigo. Afternoon drive back to Waingapu for overnight and meals. (B,L,D)

WAINGAPU – NUA WUNGA – WAIKABUBAK

Breakfast at hotel. Our guide and driver will meet you at hotel then visit Prailiu traditional village nearby Waingapu for well-known Sumba "Ikat" weaving. This is the same local fabric as you saw the day before but it might be different on size, colors and the pattern. Then drive North thru villages, savanna and beach to Nua Wunga which is the FIRST  traditional village of Sumba people when they reach this island hundreds or thousand years ago. Wunga means the FIRST. Observe this village with its megalithic, then onto Mamboro and turn to Anakalang to see the huge stone grave. After taking pictures, interviews and meet the locals, drive 30 minutes to Waikabubak  for accommodation and meals. (B,L,D)

WAIKABUBAK

Breakfast at hotel. Start to explore West part of Sumba, Puunaga, Tarung and Tabar to see stone graves and traditional houses. Their houses are decorated horns of water buffaloes in front. Then to the local market to see the activities of local people in selling and buying their daily need and hand weaving. Return to hotel for lunch. Then drive South  to Wanokaka district to visit Waigali and Praigoli villages for traditional houses  which decorated by horns of huge water buffaloes in front of it, the oldest stone graves and important monument  called "Watu Kajiwa" which believed as their ancestor's boats. You also can explore other traditional villages such as Kadengar  and Gaura to the South West. Otherwise return to Hotel for lunch. Afternoon drive 20 minutes  to Waikelo Sawah  to admire the wonderful waterfall that comes from a big cave with a natural pool for swimming and using for irrigation. Then return to the town to visit local market. Drive back to hotel for accommodation and meals. (B,L,D)

WAIKABUBAK – TAMBOLAKA – DENPASAR (BALI)

Breakfast at hotel. Drive about one hour  to Tambolaka Airport for flight to Denpasar - Bali.On the way stops can be made according to local happenings. (B)
